This message made some specific application to the confirmation students. The apostle Paul called Timothy (and all Believers) to "watch your life and doctrine closely." Being vigilant to uphold the pure biblical doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ is crucially important, because it is the foundation of the life that's pleasing to the Lord--conduct flows from conviction, and conviction is determined by doctrine. And the scope of this call to hold fast to the gospel, and the life that flows from it, is eternal--"because if you do, you will save both yourselves and your hearers."

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Pastor Dana Coyle
"Blinded By Love"
I Peter 4:8
Length Approximately 00:40:15
---
One of the foremost defining marks of a born-again follower of Christ, is love--love for the Lord, and love for people. This text speaks of the love of Christ that is to be stretched forth from one Believer to another within the Body of Christ...and the fact that the command to Believers to "love one another" appears repeatedly throughout the New Testament underscores how important this is to the Savior. And the directly stated reason why this is so important is "because love covers over a multitude of sins." That is, the love of Christ stretching forth is intended to make Believers blind to one another's faults, weaknesses, and imperfections.

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Pastor Dennis Norby
"Tomorrow Will Worry"
Matthew 6:34
Length Approximately 00:27:35
---
Today's message looks at the command of Jesus to not worry. This is because there is no forgiveness without repentance, and there is no repentance without turning--for repentance IS turning. There is bruising and brokenness, but also joyous relief and celebration--because it is a matter of God turning a sinner from the wretchedness of his sins and unto the Savior, Jesus Christ, in whom forgiveness and salvation is found. One of the struggles is our tendency to get hung up on contrition (sorrow over our guilt), and thus not take refuge in the mercy of Christ and His finished work (faith). But true repentance always includes both contrition and faith. We must confess our general sinfulness, as well as specific sin over which the Holy Spirit is bringing conviction. And we must confess to God above all, but also to those persons we have wronged by our sin. And confession to a trusted, mature Christian can also be of great benefit to our assurance of God's forgiveness.

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Pastor Dana Coyle
"Fess Up and Confess"
Matthew 3:1-10
Length Approximately: 00:30:37
---
Repentance is composed of contrition and faith in Christ. And when the Holy Spirit is producing repentance in a sinner's heart through the Word of God, one of the fruits of that repentance will be confession of sin. David's confession in Psalm 32 reveals two elements in confession--full acknowledgment of the wretchedness of one's sin (and one's sinfulness), and total abandonment of all cover-ups. And when we are thus moved to confess to the Lord, we receive the joyous release of His forgiveness in Christ. We apologize for an error in recording. There is a roughness in repentance, because it involves being humbled and broken over our sin. But though it is a rough embrace, it IS an embrace nevertheless--a loving act of the God who desires intimate fellowship with us. Repentance is a work God does in a sinner's heart, by the power of His Spirit working through His Word. In the coming weeks, we will week to study the fruits of repentance. May God produce them in our lives more deeply and broadly, to the glory of Christ.

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Pastor Dennis Norby
"You Give Life"
Length Approximately 00:27:16
Nehemiah 9:6
---
Today's message was a look at the Biblical truth about life and God as the creator and giver of all life. He knew who He was, and what He had come to do, even at 12 years of age. And He would let nothing stop Him from doing what His Father had said was necessary--the work of accomplishing our salvation. We need to learn to discern, in our daily lives, the essential difference between what is necessary ("must"), and what is merely important ("should, can"). The specifics will vary--but we all must repent, trust in Christ, and obey His Word.

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Pastor Dennis Norby
"M"
Length Approximately: 00:25:03
Psalm 119:97-104
---
Today's message looks at part of the longest chapter in the Bible.
