The call to repent--to turn from sin, and turn to God--is woven prominently throughout all of Scripture. This is because there is no forgiveness without repentance, and there is no repentance without turning--for repentance IS turning. But it must be remembered that repentance is a gift God grants, and a work God does to us and in us...a sinner does not turn himself, but simply surrenders to the rough embrace of the God who turns him from his sin and to the crucified, risen, and glorified Christ.
