One of the fruits which demonstrates that repentance is taking place in a sinners heart is godly sorrow. Paul writes, "you became sorrowful as God intended," indicating that sorrow over sin is God's will for us. But sorrow is not an end in and of itself...it is a means to an end, moving us to receive God's mercy in Christ with deep thirst and gratitude. The endgame of godly sorrow is joy!
