"The Gift of Sinai's Fear, Part 2"

In part 2 of this message, we ponder God's warning for Israel not to break through the barriers established around the Mt. Sinai--a needed warning, given human nature's tendency to stray outside of the limitations God establishes for us in His Word, for our good and welfare. We also learn that the Fear of the Lord is a gift of divine love, given by a loving Heavenly Father who desires to protect us, His beloved children, from that which would harm and destroy us. "God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." And we learn that the fear of the Lord is a gift we can receive daily because of the cross of Christ.

The Apostle John was a faithful spiritual father because he spoke the truth, he helped his "children" distinguishing between light and darkness, and he encouraged them, and he discouraged love for the world. May God make us faithful spiritual leaders. Amen.

This is part one of a two-part message examining God's descent upon Mt. Sinai, an event that struck great fear into Israel. Moses said, "Don't be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of the Lord will be with you to keep you from sinning." This message notes Israel's fear in God's presence, and calls upon us to examine how we enter into worship. God deserves reverence and godly fear as we worship Him. We can come boldly and confidently because of what Christ has accomplished for us...but we must not come casually or carelessly.
