In his Gospel, Luke includes several intimate, rich accounts surrounding the birth of Christ: the angel Gabriel appearing to Zechariah, later to Mary, Mary's visit to Elizabeth, the birth itself and Mary's purification and dedication in the temple. While Joseph and Mary and the baby Jesus are in the Temple, the Holy Spirit leads Simeon to them to fulfill His promise that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. The story of Simeon, however, is instructive Scripture for us...not simply a warm and fuzzy story. John Talley is a Deacon of the Congregation.
